The short version

  • Business profiles are for lawful services only, described truthfully and priced clearly.
  • No sexual services of any kind, and nothing that uses the feature as a route to intimate companionship.
  • A verified badge is not an endorsement or a guarantee by Hamuwemu.
  • Anything you agree with a service provider is between the two of you. We are not a party to it.

1What a business profile is

A business profile is a secondary, optional feature. It lets a member or a registered business describe a lawful service, show examples of their work, state prices and be found by other members. It does not change what Hamuwemu is: a platform for friendship, relationships and marriage.

A business profile is separate from your personal profile. Do not run a business from a personal profile, and do not present a business as a person looking for a relationship.

2Services that may be listed

  • Wedding and event services — planning, decoration, catering, venues, cars, music and entertainment
  • Photography and videography
  • Beauty, hair, bridal dressing and makeup
  • Tailoring, clothing and jewellery
  • Fitness, personal training, yoga and sports coaching
  • Wellness and lawful, professionally qualified therapeutic massage and physiotherapy
  • Education, tutoring, language teaching, skills training and career coaching
  • Professional and consulting services — legal, accounting, IT, marketing, translation, design
  • Travel, hospitality and relocation services
  • Other lawful categories we approve in writing

Where a service is regulated in Sri Lanka — medical, dental, legal, financial, immigration or any other licensed profession — you must hold the required registration or licence, and we may ask to see it before approving the listing.

3Services that are never allowed

  • Sexual services in any form — escorting, prostitution, “companionship” with a sexual element, sexual massage, webcam or adult content, and any coded or implied offer of the same.
  • Any listing whose real purpose is to solicit dates, intimacy or a compensated relationship.
  • Marriage broking, dowry arrangement, or any service that treats a person as a commodity.
  • Employment, visa, migration or job-placement offers that require payment up front, and any offer that cannot be verified.
  • Money lending, investment schemes, cryptocurrency trading, gambling, betting and lotteries.
  • Medicines, supplements or treatments claiming to cure disease; unlicensed cosmetic or surgical procedures; abortion services.
  • Weapons, drugs, alcohol sales, tobacco and vaping products.
  • Counterfeit goods, pirated media, hacking services, fake documents, fake reviews and fake followers.
  • Multi-level marketing, pyramid schemes and “business opportunities” that depend on recruitment.
  • Anything else unlawful in Sri Lanka or in the country where the service is offered.

4Listing standards

  • Be accurate. Describe what you actually provide. Do not overstate qualifications, experience, registration or awards.
  • Be clear about price. State the price or a realistic price range in Sri Lankan Rupees, say what is included, and say whether taxes and travel are extra. Do not advertise a price you do not honour.
  • Use your own images. Portfolio images must be of work you did. Stock images must be identified as illustrative. Do not use another business's photographs.
  • Get consent. Before posting a photograph of a client — a bride, a couple, a student — get their permission.
  • No misleading claims. Do not guarantee results you cannot deliver. Do not claim an endorsement, a partnership or an approval you do not have, including from Hamuwemu.
  • Keep it contactable. Provide a working contact method and answer enquiries. Abandoned listings are removed.
  • No spam. Do not mass-message members to advertise. Members contact you, not the other way round.

Sri Lanka's Consumer Affairs Authority Act No. 9 of 2003 prohibits misleading and deceptive conduct and false representations about the standard, quality, price or approval of goods and services. A listing that breaks those rules breaks this policy too, and may expose you to action by the Authority independently of anything we do.

5Verification and promotion

  • Business profiles are reviewed before they go live. We may ask for your business registration, a professional licence, identity documents or evidence of the work you show.
  • A verified badge means only that we have seen documents that appear to support the identity or registration claimed. It is not a quality assessment, a licence check with the regulator, a background check, or a recommendation.
  • Hamuwemu does not currently offer featured or boosted placement for a business profile, and no paid plan includes it. The profile boost included with Premium and Premium Plus applies to your personal profile in discovery, not to a business listing. If we introduce paid promotion in future it will be clearly marked as such; it would affect where a listing appears and nothing else, and would never be an endorsement.
  • We may withdraw verification, or any promotion we may later offer, at any time, and we may decline a listing without giving reasons where we believe it presents a risk to members.
  • Documents you send for verification are handled as described in our Privacy Policy and deleted when they are no longer needed.

6Dealings between members and businesses

Hamuwemu is not a party to your transaction

We introduce people. We do not supply, arrange, guarantee, insure, inspect or take payment for any service listed here. Any contract is between the member and the business directly, and any dispute is between them. We are not liable for the quality, safety, legality, timing or outcome of a service, or for any payment made for it.

If you are buying a service:

  • agree the scope, the price and the dates in writing before you pay;
  • be cautious about large advance payments, and keep receipts;
  • check registration or licensing yourself where the service is regulated;
  • keep the conversation in the app until you are confident; and
  • report anything that looks like a scam.

If something goes wrong, you may complain to the Consumer Affairs Authority (caa.gov.lk), generally within three months of the transaction, and to the police if you believe an offence has been committed.

7Reporting a listing, and enforcement

Any member can report a business profile or an individual listing through ⋮ → Report, or by writing to support@hamuwemu.lk. Tell us the listing, what happened and what evidence you have.

Depending on what we find, we may ask for more information, require the listing to be corrected, suspend it while we investigate, remove it, withdraw verification, withdraw any promotion the listing has, or permanently ban the account and any linked accounts. Listings that solicit sexual services, or that are used to exploit or defraud members, are removed immediately and permanently, and are reported to the authorities where the law requires.

You may appeal a decision within 30 days as described in our Community Guidelines.

8Your own obligations

If you sell services through Hamuwemu, you are responsible for your own business registration, licences, insurance, tax and accounting obligations, and for complying with consumer protection and data protection law in your dealings with clients. We do not provide those services and we do not advise on them.
