If you have seen anything on Hamuwemu that sexualises, endangers or exploits a child, report it immediately using Report in the app or by writing to childsafety@hamuwemu.lk. If a child is in immediate danger, call the Sri Lanka Police on 119 or the National Child Protection Authority on 1929 (free, 24 hours, in Sinhala, Tamil and English).
1Our statement
Hamuwemu is a friendship, relationship and marriage platform published by Infinite Global Solutions (Pvt) Ltd (company registration PV 00269216, Sri Lanka). These standards apply to the Hamuwemu app on Google Play and to hamuwemu.lk, and will apply to Hamuwemu for iOS from its release on the App Store.
Hamuwemu is strictly for adults aged 18 and over. Child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) has no place on our platform in any form. We prohibit it absolutely, we build our product to prevent it, we act on every report, and we report it to the authorities. A single confirmed instance results in the permanent removal of the account, without warning and without exception.
These standards are published, kept current, reviewed at least annually, and self-certified to Google Play under its Child Safety Standards policy.
2What we prohibit
For these standards a child is any person under the age of 18, regardless of the age of consent or the age of majority in any particular place.
The following are prohibited on Hamuwemu without exception. Each results in immediate permanent removal and, where the law requires or safety demands it, a report to the authorities.
- Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) — any image, video, drawing, animation, text, audio or computer-generated content that depicts or describes a child in a sexual manner, or that sexualises a child. This includes AI-generated, edited, morphed or “nudified” content, and content where a real child's face is placed on another body.
- Grooming — any attempt by an adult to build a relationship with a child, or with a person believed to be a child, for a sexual purpose; and any attempt to isolate a child, to encourage secrecy, or to move a child to another platform for that purpose.
- Sexualisation of a minor — sexual or romantic messages, requests, compliments or propositions directed at a child, and any sexual commentary about a child.
- Sextortion — threatening to publish a child's intimate images, or using them to coerce a child into anything.
- Child trafficking and exploitation — offering, advertising, arranging or seeking a child for sexual purposes, forced marriage, forced labour or any form of exploitation; and promoting or arranging travel for the purpose of sexually abusing a child.
- Solicitation and facilitation — asking for, offering, linking to, describing how to find, or trading CSAM; and helping anyone else do any of the above.
- Endangering or non-sexual abuse — content promoting or depicting physical or emotional abuse, neglect or endangerment of a child.
- Child accounts — creating an account for or as a person under 18, or helping someone under 18 to access Hamuwemu.
- Inappropriate use of children's images — using a child's photograph as a profile picture, or posting images of children in any sexualised or exploitative context. A child may appear only incidentally in a family photograph — never as the subject of a photograph and never in your main profile photograph.
3Keeping minors off the platform
The single most effective child safety measure for a dating platform is to keep children off it. Our measures are:
- 18+ age requirement in our Terms of Use, enforced as an eligibility condition of the contract.
- Date of birth collected at sign-up, with registration blocked for anyone under 18. The date of birth cannot be edited afterwards by the member; a correction requires a support request and evidence.
- Mobile number verification by one-time code for every account.
- Selfie verification, reviewed by a trained member of our team, is required before a member can send their first message. Sign-up, profile set-up and browsing are open before then, but no member can contact anyone until a person has reviewed their selfie. Where the reviewer believes the person may be under 18, the account is blocked and further evidence of age is required before it can be used.
- Store-level age restriction. Hamuwemu uses Google Play's Restrict Minor Access setting for dating and matchmaking apps, so that the app is not available to accounts Google identifies as belonging to minors. Hamuwemu for iOS will carry an 18+ age rating when it is released.
- Ongoing signals. We act on any indication that an account holder may be under 18 — the appearance of the account holder in photographs, references to school or age in profile text or in a message reported to us, or a report from another member. Where a reviewer has reason to think an account holder may be under 18, the account is suspended while we check.
- Reporting route. “This person may be under 18” is a dedicated, prominent reason in the in-app report flow, and those reports are prioritised.
If we conclude that an account belongs to a person under 18, we suspend it immediately, remove the profile from the platform, delete the personal data other than what we must keep for safety and legal purposes, cancel any subscription, and — where the circumstances indicate a risk to the child — refer the matter to the National Child Protection Authority.
4Prevention and detection
- Human review before publication. Every profile photograph is reviewed by a trained person before it appears to any other member.
- Rejected images stay rejected. A photograph that a moderator has previously rejected on Hamuwemu is recognised if it is uploaded again, and sent for review.
- Profile text and business enquiries are checked automatically for signs of solicitation, contact details and prohibited terms, and anything flagged goes to a reviewer.
- Private messages are end-to-end encrypted and cannot be scanned by us. Reporting is therefore the route for concerns raised in private chat. Any member can report a single message or photo by pressing and holding it; the report carries a copy of what they saw from their own device, and we check that the reported text belongs to a message the reported member actually sent. Child-safety reports are placed at the top of the review queue.
- Ban evasion controls. We keep a minimal record of every account removed for a child safety reason, so that the same person cannot simply register again with the same details.
- Trained staff. Everyone who reviews reports receives training on identifying CSAE, on handling the material lawfully and safely, and on escalation. We limit exposure and provide support to reviewers.
- No paywall. Reporting is free and available to everyone, on every plan, whether or not the accounts are matched.
5How to report
Anyone can report a child safety concern — members, non-members, parents, guardians and the authorities. You do not need a Hamuwemu account to contact us.
| Route | How |
|---|---|
| In the app | Press and hold the message or photo, or tap ⋮ on the profile or chat, then Report, and choose “Child safety concern” or “This person may be under 18”. Available on every profile, chat, message and photo, without leaving the app. A reported message is sent to us from your device so that we can read it. Or, in Settings or Help, tap Report a concern and choose Child safety — use this when the concern is not about a single profile, chat or photo |

Reports are confidential. We never tell the reported person who reported them. You can report anonymously by email, although giving us a way to reach you helps us investigate.
When you report, tell us where it is — the username, the chat, the image — rather than forwarding the content. Sending child sexual abuse material is itself an offence, and we do not need it in order to act.
6How we respond
When a CSAE report or detection reaches us:
- Immediately — the report is placed at the top of the review queue and assessed urgently.
- Within 24 hours — a trained reviewer assesses the report. Where the material appears to be child sexual abuse material or a child appears to be at risk, the account is suspended at once and the matter is escalated to the Child Safety Officer, at any hour.
- Evidence is preserved — the account is placed under a legal hold, which prevents it being deleted by anyone, including the account holder, and the data we hold is retained with restricted access for as long as the law requires or permits, so that the authorities can act on it.
- The account is permanently terminated, and any linked accounts are removed with it.
- We report to the authorities as set out in section 7.
- We support the victim — where a child or their family contacts us, we remove the content, tell them what we have done and point them to the National Child Protection Authority and the police.
- We record and review — every case is logged, and we review our detection and response quarterly to close any gap it reveals.
A person removed under these standards may appeal once, within 30 days, using the in-app appeal form or by email. Appeals are decided by a senior member of the safety team who was not involved in the original decision, and an account is restored only where the original conclusion was clearly mistaken.
7Reporting to the authorities
We report confirmed and suspected child sexual abuse and exploitation to:
- the National Child Protection Authority of Sri Lanka — hotline 1929, ncpa@childprotection.gov.lk, established under the National Child Protection Authority Act No. 50 of 1998;
- the Sri Lanka Police, including the Bureau for the Prevention of Abuse of Children and Women (011 218 6055) and, where the matter involves computer-facilitated offences, the CID Cyber Crime Unit; and
- the NCMEC CyberTipline (report.cybertip.org), the international clearing house for child sexual abuse material. We do this voluntarily, as a matter of policy, so that content and offenders crossing borders can be traced and acted on by law enforcement worldwide.
We comply with Sri Lankan law, including the provisions of the Penal Code that criminalise the sexual abuse, exploitation and trafficking of children and obscene publications and exhibitions relating to children, the Obscene Publications Ordinance, the Computer Crime Act No. 24 of 2007, and the duty under Sri Lankan law on a person who provides services by means of a computer to report to law enforcement conduct known to them that constitutes an offence relating to child sexual abuse. We also comply with the child safety laws of every other country in which our service is available, and we respond to lawful requests from those authorities as described in our Law Enforcement Request Guidelines.
